The Glenbrook Protective Denim Jacket

I love denim! In fact, I’ve most likely got a denim fetish, if there is such a thing. Anything denim, I need. When I saw this old-school-type denim jacket from Johnny Reb, I had to have!

With Summer on our doorstep, I was looking for a jacket to wear on short rides, around town mainly and out for lunch at the pub. Something stylish, classy and feminine, with that classic cool denim look. It’s comfortable and light to wear just over short sleeves.

Wearing this jacket on a few highway rides also, I felt confident in case of an off, with the reinforced Kevlar® protective lining and CE Level 1 armour. It is not a jacket I plan to wear road trippin’. If I have room for a spare jacket, this will be packed, as it doubles as a fashion jacket with removable armour.

The layer of breathable mesh between your skin and the Kevlar, feels soft and is of summer-weight.

There’s about a 100 mm gap at the wrist connection. If you’re not keen on the odd insect flying in, longer-armed gloves will cover that. In Spring with the bees about, I wore my longer gloves. With the warmer weather and fewer bees, I’ve gone with my short summer gloves, as the gap helps with welcomed venting.

I like the brass buttons that cover the zip, it’s a favourable and tidy look.

I chose the large, going from the supplied size guide and it fits me perfect. I am a 12-14 women and I still have room to place a thin fleece underneath if need be. I love the arm length, as it comes down just below my wrists, which is not common, as I am fairly tall and lanky.

The body length is just above the hips.

No pocket zips

One design flaw, for me: no zipped pockets for keys and phone. I like to carry both on my person, when riding and didn’t feel it was safe to just pop them into the side pockets, without a secure form of closure. The two button pockets on the outer chest are too small for that purpose. There are no internal pockets.

This is a great value jacket, 4 ½ stars for a protective, fresh summer look and feel jacket.

Less ½ a star for no pocket zips.
